The department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine in Philadelphia is seeking exceptional candidates to fill a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Foteini Mourkioti (LabWebsite: http://fmourkioti.wix.com/mourkioti-lab). The Mourkioti laboratory is interested in the fundamental aspects of how skeletal muscles and cardiac systems function as well as the practical aspects of manipulating these systems by using animal models and tissue engineering approaches for disease intervention. The experiments will include mouse work, surgical procedures, flow cytometry, cell culture, histological and live-imaging methods.
The position provides the opportunity for extensive interdisciplinary interactions with other groups within UPenn working on related and complimentary topics on basic and applied science, collaboration with academic institutions, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, participation in national and international conferences as well as internal project meetings. Qualifications and Experience: All applicants should have either a Ph,D., M.D., or M.D./ Ph.D, degree in a relevant research area. S/he should have the ability to work independently, as well as the proactive personality and good communication skills to work as a team member. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English, able to maintain good documentation of their work and a strong work ethic. Preference will be given to applicants with a track record of scientific productivity. Prior experience with animal models is a plus.
